"Yes, fluorescent lanterns are brighter than LED ones, but LED ones are just so much more reliable that the lessened brightness is just fine by me. This lantern is far from a battery guzzler. It takes just 4 AA batteries, and they last a long time. I actually forgot to turn my Brunton LED lantern off after the last time we went camping, and when I found it about a week later, the light was still shining!
